Amitabh Bachchan Walks Out Of Nagraj Manjule’s Jhund. Here’s Why...

SpotboyE.com was the first one to reveal that two-time National Award-winning Marathi filmmaker, Nagraj Manjule, has roped in Amitabh Bachchan for his Bollywood debut. Later, we also revealed that the film is titled Jhund.

Now, if reports are to be believed, Big B has opted out of the project, courtesy delayed shoots.

A source told Mumbai Mirror, “Mr Bachchan had committed himself to the film last year, but the shooting kept getting delayed without any clarity. As he had to give those dates to other filmmakers and was unable to wait any longer, he has decided to opt out.”

Well, reports also suggest that along with delayed shoots, Big B learnt that the film had copyright infringement and he has returned the signing amount.

Talking about Jhund, Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to play Vijay Barse, the retired school teacher who is behind the initiative Slum Soccer –which uses football to change the lives of hundreds of slum kids, helping them to negotiate the harsh realities of a marginalised life with the game.

Slum Soccer not only uses football to engage with children but also supplement their education and impart social messages like sanitation, life skills and gender equality. Today, the initiative supports more than 10,000 boys and girls across India. Many have gone on to find jobs in the police, railways and banks, thanks to sports quotas in recruitment processes.

Team Nagraj had met Barse in Pune, who had given an NOC. Sources say that Bachchan’s character will be somewhat similar to what Shah Rukh Khan played in Chak De! India, which released in 2007.

Earlier, talking about the film, Nagraj had said, “I started working on the script after Sairat was wrapped up. Even though it is based on a real-life character, the way I’ve written the part and the film, it moves far away from the source.”
